Innovate Team Members Present at Annual EPA GIS Workshop

March – The EPA GIS Workgroup held an annual GIS Workshop at the EPA campus in Research Triangle Park, NC.  The workshop included training and technical talks on a wide variety of topics including the EPA GeoPlatform, desktop GIS, climate change, emergency response, advanced analysis and data visualization, and a track for geospatial application developers.

Five Innovate Team members delivered technical presentations or trainings, including:

  • Steven Jett  – Data Publishing Best Practices
  • Barb Rosenbaum  – NHDPlus V2 in the GeoPlatform
  • Torrin Hultgren – Road Map for the Environmental Dataset Gateway and GitHub for GIS Professionals
  • Frank Roberts  – Tern Island Story Map
  • Mark Murphy – Using ArcGIS Pro

In addition, seven team members participated actively in discussions, both in-person and remotely, including Claudia Benesch, Catherine Harness, Binfei Chen, Seth Mann, Suzanne Pierson, Mettja Kuna, and Phill Thomas.

Participants described the entire workshop as highly successful and singled out Innovate’s contributions as what they hope to see more of next year.

Innovate! Supports the “Safer Choice” Launch

March 5, 2015 – The Environmental Protection Agency recently debuted their “Safer Choice” Logo, which will be displayed on approved household products. Innovate! is honored and excited to be supporting this release.

Innovate! is working closely with the Safer Choice program to develop their partner and product management system on the Salesforce.com platform. The system will allow the EPA to securely connect with partners, experts, and staff to rapidly review industry products for meeting the EPA Safer Products standards. Look for the logo on products in stores!

Frank Roberts Presents Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS Webinar 2/23/15

Frank Roberts, Innovate! Inc., presented a webinar on:  Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS – The next frontier in web and mobile mapping

This presentation focused on a number or real world implementations of the new Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS.  Innovate! Inc. has deployed a wide variety of Web AppBuilder apps to their clients in the last few months, and prior to the release, Innovate! played an active role in Esri’s Beta testing of Web AppBuilder.  This included configuration, and custom widgetry.  Prior to Web AppBuilder, Innovate had a very strong development background in Esri’s FlexViewer and Silverlight web map viewers.  Our intentions are to share Innovate’s experiences with others that are thinking about making the jump to the next frontier of web mapping.

Frank Roberts is Innovate’s IT Director and has over 20 years’ experience in the information technology field. He supports projects through geospatial solutions, database management, system management, project management, training and outreach for stakeholders. Frank has deep experience in Natural Resources Management as well as Tribal Government operations. He spent 20 years managing the Coeur d’Alene Tribe’s GIS program and assembled large regional data sets for the Tribe’s area of interest, including LiDAR, satellite, airborne hyperspectral, and traditional GIS datasets. Frank has received 1st place recognition for his development efforts in Esri’s Flex API, and Desktop Development at both the Esri UC and Esri Dev Summit.

Small Business Administration (SBA) approves Mentor Protégé Agreement between Innovate!, Inc. and Stinger Ghaffarian Technologies (SGT)

SGTLogo-250Innovate received approval from the U.S. Small Business Administration to participate in its Mentor/Protégé Program, under a formal agreement with Stinger Ghaffarian Technologies (SGT www.sgt-inc.com) as the mentor.  “This is an important step in increasing Innovate’s ability to make the difference we are committed to make with our clients,” commented Lily Thomas, Innovate’s President.

Frank Roberts Elected to a Second Term as the Private Sector Representative for the Idaho Geospatial Council – Executive Committee

FrankHead2-150Innovate proudly announces that Frank Roberts was elected to a second term as the private sector representative for the Idaho Geospatial Council – Executive Committee. 

The Idaho Geospatial Council (IGC) was created through Executive Order to provide policy-level direction and promote the efficient and effective use of resources for matters related to geospatial Information within the state of Idaho. The Council’s responsibilities include: review and assess developments in geographic information, mapping, global positioning systems and remote sensing technology that could be utilized to benefit the state’s interest; assess GIS and image processing capability needs within Idaho; and advise the Governor and Legislature on geographic information issues and needs for standards or policies for the state. The members of Committee meet on a number of occasions to discuss developments and issues pertaining to various aspects of utilizing geographic information in meeting needs of people living and doing business in Idaho.

Mr. Roberts is Director of Information Technology at Innovate!, Inc. which delivers geospatial solutions for federal, state, local and tribal governments. He supports projects by developing geospatial solutions, database creation, system management, project management, training and outreach for stakeholders.

Innovate announced that the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) awarded Innovate a Multiple Award Schedule (MSA) contract under the Environmental Services Schedule – 899. Specifically, Innovate was awarded the 899-7 Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Services series.  Services within this series are designed to support federal agencies in meeting their environmental requirements and streamlining the contracting process by providing a faster, more cost efficient means to meet requirements. “We see the award of this contract as an exciting vehicle for Innovate to continue providing excellent geospatial services as an integral part of overall business solutions for our customers”, said Phill Thomas, Innovate Chief Operating Officer. Innovate’s GSA 899 contract number is GS-10F-117BA.

Innovate Welcomes Hank Garie to Growing Geospatial Practice

ALEXANDRIA, VA (November 4, 2013) Innovate! Inc. recently welcomed Hank Garie as Director of Geospatial Strategy to our growing geospatial practice. Hank is a leader in the geospatial field with more than 25 years of experience developing, directing, and managing state and federal geospatial programs. He most recently served as Program Manager for the Department of Interior’s (DOI) Geospatial Line of Business (Geo LoB), a cross-cutting OMB initiative involving 26 federal agencies under the auspices of the Federal Geographic Data Committee. Hank has also recently provided thought leadership, research, and analysis to help the Geospatial Platform Team define the organizational structure and technical requirements for communities on the Geospatial Platform.

From 2002-2006, Mr. Garie served as the Director of Geospatial One Stop, a national initiative that developed an information portal to improve the ability of the public and government to discover and access geospatial information to support decision-making.

Prior to working on national geospatial issues, Mr. Garie served as New Jersey’s first statewide GIS Coordinator and is a former president of the National States Geographic Information Council.

When asked about Mr. Garie joining Innovate, Lily Thomas, President of Innovate replied “We are thrilled to have another outstanding geospatial leader joining our team. Our geospatial practice is growing, both in terms of projects and diversity, and we are very excited to have Mr. Garie on board to help continue to support our clients.”
